Powershift Gearbox with oil immersed clutch
Discussion
The early Powershift boxes which have an oil immersed clutch, where does the oil come from/is shared with? I changed the engine oil the other day and put in some old Audi spec oil I had in the garage (correct weight, fully synth), but then was thinking that if the engine oil is shared with the clutch maybe the Ford oil has some additives the Audi oil won't have? I would guess the clutch oil is shared with the gearbox, but the gearbox is also used in other cars with a dry clutch, so it would be illogical for the 2 to use the same fluids in one version and the gearbox be sealed in another version.

Wet clutch DCT gearboxes like your Powershift use a common oil between the gearbox internals, clutch and the gearchange actuation system.
There is no connection with the engine oil. If you were to change the 'gearbox' oil you have to use the right grade of ATF because it has to the job of lubricating gears and bearings as well as being the hydraulic control fluid for the clutch and gearchange.

Perfect, thank you very much. I had assumed that to be the case but thanks for confirming. Everything says that using the genuine fluid for the gearbox is important, a job for next year. You should be good for a while with the gearbox oil, I think it’s every 36k and I had it done after I got it, there should be an invoice in all the paperwork I gave you so you will know when it’s due.
Yes, thank you, another 19k from memory. No rush there. She's still going well. Gassing Station | Ford | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
