Ford Mondeo 1.8TDCI boost leak... how to find it?!

I have a 173,000 mile ex-police Mondeo which now produces "underboost" error code, and a cloud of unburnt fuel whenever it comes on boost.
The error code only surfaced after I had a bash at changing the clutch and DMF in my driveway so I think it's something I've done rather than the turbo failing.
There is audible "whoosht" which sounds like it's directly beneath the windscreen (although may not be exactly there).
Having put the hoses I removed back on (three times) and examined all the the pipes as best I can, I'm at a total loss as to where it's coming from.
Any tips on finding the boost leak?
