For a while I have been looking at Vivaros/Trafics to convert to a campervan as thats what I see for sale......But then I saw a nice looking Tranny custom. Approx the same size etc, more trannies sold than Vivaros etc....But why so few converted to a campervan. i asked that ? on a faceache group and wow, the anti Ford lobby unleashed with a ....rust bucket...style rant. Even tho all customs are fully galvanised etc. Surely volume speaks???

Nothing wrong with them, the newer ones don't rust but neither do the Vivaros, the transit is a wider van than a transporter so you can get a bigger bed in them, no doubt most people use the over priced poor quality van that is the VW.

Bigger bed, all 75mm of it. laugh

There’s a reason why Tranny campers are rare, it’s because you look like a do as you likey in one of them.

Buy what you like most and suits you best, but the VW is better wink

I just dont get the VW thing. They are way way overpriced, its just a fad that some get suckered into. I agree with modern vans, either the Vivaro or Custom tranny will fit the bill. But the slanging off the Ford got was weird....We had a self converted Hiace in NZ with a small side locker going down the right hand side and a fixed ish bed on the left and we found that fine. So our intention is to either buy an already converted one...(and prices are still stupid), bin the RR bed and build a frame for the fixed bed, or do one ourselves...(meaning me). A kitchen pod all along the right, and a higher fixed bed with loo and shelving under.

Overpriced - yes; but they hold their money therefore selling it on gets you a fair chunk of it back. I had a T5 which I specced with two SLDs. Got to 80k miles and sold it for very strong money to someone who turned it into a Kombi and made a profit on it.

Fad? You can't argue they're a better van. I have a T6 now although I do prefer the T5 generation for styling.
