Hi PH.

Any recommendations for gearbox specialists near Berkshire?

I have the wet clutch powershift in an 09 mondeo and it’s playing up.

Recommendation would be great.

Thanks

What's it doing? It has a fairly vital service interval that cures a lot of niggles if not done already.

Also are you sure it's either a Powershift or the car is a 2009? I understand it was introduced in 2010.

Not used them myself but I've had other people recommend 3D Transmissions in Tilehurst to me. That was when I needed a torque converter and I went with a SAAB specialist rather than a gearbox specialist as they had a unit in stock.

Maybe worth a call to 3D to see if they do Powershifts, but I don't see why not. Or perhaps seeking out an independent Ford or Volvo specialist might be the way.

Yes they have come up but they have multiple terrible reviews online so a bit put off by the reviews.

Intermittent clunky shifts. Yes oil serviced recently. Potential slippage in 3rd. Some kangarooing in 1st.

Worst when cold. And then if car warm but off for 10 mins. A good thrashing gets it shifting properly.

Sometimes if shifts down into first when not required / gets the gear selection wrong causing high revs.

All intermittent at the mo.

I got a garage to do the fluid so I might do it myself instead so I’m 100%.

I have recalibrated it.

The oil is pretty easy to change, look for Alan howatt on you tube for a video.

However it might be too late to save it, budget around £3500 to rebuild it fitted (properly)

I had a Powershift mondeo for 7 years. Right from the start it was iffy when cold, especially pulling off and shifting from 1st to 2nd. Never noticed any slippage though. It never got any worse, and I did service it at the required intervals. I did run the calibration/adaptation reset procedures using ForScan when they became available a couple of years into my ownership which made tremendous improvement to the smoothness, but it was relatively temporary - I assume that's what you mean when you say you have recalibrated it.

When I contacted a few gearbox specialists they either said they don't work on Powershifts or it needs a new clutch pack. I stopped caring eventually and just hoped it didn't grenade itself completely hehe

We've tried to sort a few (Ford Service Agent) and never been successful. Also tried a couple of local specialists and they've advised not to bother as it will likely end in putting a new box in anyway.

Sorry it's not the news you want but better to not waste money in the first place than end up in the same boat anyway

Maybe give these blokes a call to talk about it:

https://www.eco-torque.co.uk/dual-clutch-transmiss...

Not particularly local, but the website is encouraging at least. You might get a decent steer from them as to what's up and the likely wallet damage.

Yes i think this is likely how it will go. Its still drivable but will get demoted to dog/tip car. Did 450 miles on the weekend without issue. I was hoping to put 200k on this car but at just over 100 it might be curtains.

Sorry, I meant to say that I haven't recalibrated it using forscan.

Last ditch will be fluid again, recalibration and hope for the best by the sounds of it.

2016 I bought it.

Right now it’s shifting perfectly! Kinda annoying as I now don’t trust it.
