Mondeo keyless entry

I have a small problem with the keyless entry on my 2019 Mondeo.
If I have the fob in my pocket I can open any of the doors I'm nearest to. However, if I stand by either side the doors on the other side don't open until I get near to them and then it's fine.
I thought if I stand by, say, the driver's side and the car is locked a passenger should be able to let themselves in without the key being any closer than the opposite side of the car.
Any suggestions, please?

Your assumption is incorrect. It will only let you open doors whose sensors are in range.
