Mondeo 2015 mk5 - Can’t Pair Bluetooth

Hi all,

Am having a problem pairing with the Sony/Sync system.

I paired no problem with my last Mondeo (also a 2015) but this one is impossible.

It sometimes picks my phone up (iPhone 13) but when I select it on the head unit, it tries to pair but just won’t. I have even, once or twice, reached the ‘PIN’ stage, but never successfully paired.

Have tried factory resets on the Sony but made no difference.

The car has a ‘Bluefin’ badge on the back (ECU tuning company?) and the digital dash display appears a little different from standard - not sure if this could be relevant?

Does anyone know if there is a separate Bluetooth module in the car (there was on my mk4) or is it built-in to the Sony head unit? Is this likely to be a hardware fault?

Like Windows, Bluetooth has had several iterations. Newer ones are not always compatible with earlier versions.

I had a mk4 Mondeo with Sony HU and I had some random issues with bluetooth on that. Mine had a separate bluetooth module, which I found the fuse for and pulled the fuse for half hour, after that I had no further problems. Also worth trying another phone to rule out whether it's your phone that's causing the issue (borrow a friends/partners phone and try to pair).

Yes, I tried my old iPhone 10 which also wouldn’t pair. Annoyingly, whilst I was trying to pair, my phone was picking up random Bluetooth device names from cars driving past… but very little from my car!

Managed to connect (once) but connection dropped and won’t reconnect.

My old mk4 had a separate module for Bluetooth. If this has one of those, I think that is what is likely faulty…

Does anyone know if the mk5 has a separate module or is it built in to the radio.

I have access to a similar year car for spares but mine has the Sony front end and the other is standard Ford. I believe this is only the fascia/amp that is different (not the screen/unit behind) , so still may be able to raid the other for spares… can anyone confirm this?
