1st gear nope 2nd gear just about 3rd and 4th no problem

I have a friend who has spent loads of money getting a ford transit mk7 minibus ready for mot.
A recon gerbox was fitted along with a new clutch just over a year ago and itwas nice get it back
but the gears were a little bit stiff. It goes into all gears with the engine off no problem, with the engine
on reverse is impossible and 1st and 2nd are a fight to get in. He has bled the clutch and the MOT is in
3 days and its needed for work so he worried that it will fail if they try the reverse lights when in gear. So
I'm seeing if anyone has the answer to how to fix itand also would it fail the mot if it won't go into reverse
with the engine on. They don't run through the gears so I'm not sure.

Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging properly.
Has it always been like this since the new box/clutch?
Has it been standing for a while? Could be rust on the clutch splies.

You can pass MOT for a simple car with clutch destroyed and car not able to move under its own steam.
