Unrefined Idle
Discussion
Today I was looking at a 2010 Focus Focus Estate, 2.0 petrol, I need cheepo wagon to tow a boat and carry stuff. I haven't driven a Ford since the mid 90's; I test drove a mk4 Escort back in the day and the Focus reminded me of that - rough.
After starting the Focus I had to get out to double check it wasn't actually a diesel - the vibration and engine note were not what I was expecting at all. Bear in mind I've been driving around in a knackered Citroen C4 1.4 petrol and two Alfa GTV's for the past few years. Even in its last days at 177k the old Citroen was quiet and smooth at idle - the Alfas are of course lovely!
Is this a Ford petrol thing?

Hi,
Had this on my old 2010 focus 1.8 it was a failed top engine mount that was causing he vibration and noise. To answer your question no its not normal the duratec he should be quiet at tick over with little noise and vibration. The exhaust mounts can also rust away and can cause similar noise also.
