My perception is that you might have to work those 125bhp quite hard and therefore the mpg won't be near the claimed figures.
I had reservations before I road tested my old car (125bhp) I think you should try the same, I was very surprised. As for mpg, the bulk of journeys that car did were short & cold starts and would return approx 38-43 dependant on time of year and on a good run; M ways using the NSL around 47 Iirc? Great car & engine imo.Now replaced with hybrid version and more neddies, 230mile round trip Mway 49.6mpg the fuel computer tells me. Once again maximising the NSL where possible.

1.0 125bhp 2020 van now on 61k now, done average mpg 49.2mpg according to the display. The 61k was covered 2/3 motorway 1/3 A/B roads. Never really push it as its not really its thing. Nice to drive and I also owned the previous version 2013 again high forties and similar 2/3 split.
Thanks mate. I've got a facelift 2022 Focus ST Line vignale due for delivery end of month but still on the fence about it. Bargain at 214 a month and no deposit but I've never had below 300bhp for nearly 9 years not sure how I'd adjust.simonwhite2000 said:

I have the 125 (Fiesta) and mine is sitting around 47 mpg since I bought it a few years ago. Majority of the driving is towny and I drive smoothly, rarely gunning it away from junctions. Also runs on standard E10 unleaded which is not good for your fuel economy. My perception is that you might have to work those 125bhp quite hard and therefore the mpg won't be near the claimed figures.
Don't have to "work it quite hard" at all. Quite happily trundles around without any effort and plenty of beans on tap via the turbo when you need them, although there is a noticeable turbo lag.
Your post doesn't mention which model you're enquiring about. Note that the 1.0 in the earlier Focus models has a terrible record due to the different design coolant system.
Edit - just seen your later post. The new Focus is a fairly heavy car these days so buying one with a 1.0 lawnmower engine in it wouldn't be my choice. Presumably you test drove one before you bought it so you're already happy with its performance for your needs. Given my figures for my Fiesta, I doubt you'll be seeing more than low 40s mpg wise on mostly towny driving.

Appreciate the feedback!
Mrs geeks has the forerunner to the car you have ordered (the ST-Line X) and liked it so much she has ordered the same again which is now the ST-Line Vignale (I will note this is the first time in 30 odd years of motoring she has had the same car back to back, make of that what you will). She has gone for the auto over the manual this time around due to her mobility issues. I have to say I haven't ever really found it wanting, if you stir the box and press on it's just fine. We get over 50mpg on a motorway run with the cruise set to 75 and around town that drops, showing at the moment a combined 43mpg. The Focus isn't all that heavy either, handling is superb and it has all the toys one could want from modern motoring I reckon you'll be quite pleased with it.
I’ve recently had some use of a fiesta 1.0 st line eco boost. I covered around 1500 miles in a month with it. Great little car so much go very easy to drive. I would have bought one were it not for the price tag. MPG real world town and some motorway driving 37MPG fact. Driven quite spiritedly. They’re great but high mpg is only achievable by sacrificing fun.

I recently rented a 3-pot Ford Escape (relation of Kuga) in USA which also achieved the UK equivalent of 50 mpg. Incredible fuel efficiency, although the engine's character was somewhat lumpy and gruff around town. If you want economical motoring in a larger sized vehicle these cars are great. Very cost effective.

No I havent test driven one - I ordered it blindly simply based on it being so cheap (no deposit, £214 a month)
Bargain...£49.38 per week for a Vignale Focus, nice thing.
I'd be up for that if I needed another car.

Pretty much my experience. I had a 2018 Fiesta Titanium with the 1.0 125bhp engine for about 2 years (company car).My commute is around 4 miles town, 4 miles A/B road, 15 miles motorway, twice a day. Driving not slow, but not dawdling either, I averaged 38 MPG.
Quite surprising really, and only marginally better than my previous F56 Cooper S!
