Fiesta drive shaft bearing clamp
Discussion
On the Mk7 fiesta (and probably others) the left hand drive shaft is held in with a clip on the shaft itself, the right side seems to be held in by a clamp on a bearing half way along the shaft. The book says always fit a new clamp. What is special abut the clamp that requires a new one if the original seems to hold the bearing tightly. Do people normally fit a new one after drive shaft work or re-use if it looks OK ?
It sounds like the longer shaft is split in two & has an intermediate bearing, in a housing which is bolted to the block, don't think this is what has to be changed.
The ends of the shafts are fitted with a sprung wire "snap rings", standard practice is to replace these when the shafts have been removed, I'm guessing it's these that are being called clamps. The snap rings look a bit like circlips, but with round profile, a bit like fence wire & they are at the very end of the shaft
