DPF regeneration
Discussion
I have a 2.0 diesel focus. Euro 5. 2013. I'm struggling to understand completing a dpf regen when on the move. I can do a regaen using forscan. All good apart from the noise, pollution at home, reduction in mpg and a uncomfortable feeling listening to my car doing 2700 rpm on the drive going nowhere.
However sometimes the car will start running rough. Like its running rich. This i guess is the start of the regen process. This is fine but if i'm 2 mins from home what should i do? I have heard/read that you should let the process continue. Is that by letting the engine tickover until the fans stop or carry on driving.
If the dpf guts are removed is the exhaust noisier. I would hate the car to fail noise at scrutineering!

I find with our cmax diesel the exhaust gets boomy and the engine sounds rough, sometimes while cruising at the legal limit the car can hiccup which is when its started the regeneration process. Personally if its regenerating the fans will be running at full speed I drive the car home and leave it running until the fans switch off.
Had a similar issue with a Transit Connect - as often as not regen would start just as I was stopping & during working hours, so no option to leave running or take for a spin. Battery flattening was an issue due to lengthhy fan over-run & a trickle charger was frequently used.
A complete pain in the aris to be honest, but at least there was reasonable warning from the starter before the battery went too low to turn her over.
