2016 era Fiesta ST Line - any good ?
Discussion
The early 1.0 Ford Ecoboost has had its share of issues, through Ford using nylon coolant pipes to the fact that the timing is controlled by a rubber belt running in oil. Cars with new engines were not uncommon. To what degree that is now sorted, I do not know.
The Fiesta is a great car that handles well but the economy of the 1.0 may not be all it's cracked up to be.
An alternative with cheap or zero road tax would be the Vauxhall 1.0 ecotec found in the Adam, Corsa and latest Astra. Though only 105PS, the engine seems to get good reviews and the Astra, in particular, has a far better and more modern dash than the Fiesta.

2016 will be long after the coolant pipe issues were resolved so a non-issue.
The 3 cylinder petrol is a nice little motor, has some character to it and goes well. I've driven the 100bhp version, I suspect the 140bhp which I think most ST Line's come with is great fun. Depending on how you drive I'd knock at least 10mpg off those figures, and considerably more if you drive flat out.
With regards to the offerings by Vauxhall, why on earth anyone would choose a Corsa over a Fiesta is beyond me unless price was the only factor in the decision. The difference in the way they drive is night and day (and an Astra is a step up in class so it goes without saying that the dash will be nicer vs the Fiesta)

I partly agree but the criteria was a cheap and reliable commuter. I'm not a fan of the Corsa's looks either but the Astra is a more modern design and around the same price for an SRi and likely to be good on insurance too. Auto Express also put the facelifted Corsa higher than the Fiesta in their test and I'm fairly confident you will get better value for money. The Corsa also got a better interior with the facelift.https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/vauxhall/corsa/89107...
