Hi All,

My partner has a 61 plate Fiesta 1.25 petrol which is occasionally cutting out, it’s happened 3/4 times in the last year now.

I’ve never been in the car when it’s happened but the symptoms according to her are as follows:

- Driving along at low speed when all electrics failed but engine still running, engine was running fine.
- Radio turned off
- All lights (external and internal) turned off
- Brakes were not working
- Steering became very heavy
- Turning the car off and then back on sorts the issue.

I took the car to a local Ford garage who couldn’t find any issues so recommended we book in with a main dealer for further diagnostics. Predictably they couldn’t find any issues either.

Possibly related but she’s had a couple of occasions where both dipped beam bulbs have blown at the same time. I’m sure it’s all linked.

I’ve booked the car back in at the main deal for more diagnostics next week but I’m not sure they’ll find anything.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Cheers

Had something similar years ago on a V8 Rover it was a dodgy battery connection causing alternator voltage to spike with a brief brightening of lights and several blown bulbs.

Thanks, I might replace the battery to see if this resolves the issue
