Wife keeps talking about changing my old Volvo for something newer!
One alternative could be a Galaxy but looking at the engine options there's either a Diesel (TDCi) but some of my trips are 2 mile and 10mile and I believe this will knacker the DPF. The alternative seems to be an Ecoboost petrol but are these the ones that have a belt running in the oil?
Rock & a hard place?
Looking for some guidance from you guys in the know please.

Let your wife carry on talking. just ignore her, and stick with the Volvo.

Interesting alternative. Not available here? How is servicing/parts etc?
Need to get two dog cages in the back as well as 4 seats up front. Would benefit if it can tow a light car on a trailer and be usable as a one night stop over at race meetings. Been looking at VW T5 but her indoors says "it's a van!

Mines a Honda Stepwagon not sold here but shares the k20 engine of the crv/civic.

No problems for service items and shares some parts with domestic vehicles.

Dealers are generally happy to supply parts for grey imports and there are groups to share information for parts /specialists .

Mines a 09 not a scrap of rust on it with 57000mls and I paid 5.5k for it.

Tow bars?
Can you get one for the Stepwagon?
Another PH thread from a couple of years ago also suggest the Alphard and the Elgrand.
assume all three are automatics?
(Sorry this is a Ford thread and I'm drifting away, should maybe take it over to the Car Buying thread).

Not something I've looked into but I have seen another local Stepwagon with a towbar installed.

If you can find one with a 2.0l t engine similar to the mk3 focus st it has a timing chain and no wet belt iirc.
Im sure there was at least an st smax.
