So I'm looking at spending up-to 10k on a st fiesta, has to be 1.6 but just wondering what spec is the best for my budget?

ST3, does this have any real meaningful alterations or revisions when compared to the ST2 or is it just some visuals?

Standard better than mapped car? I would be looking at having stage 2 done if I bought a standard car.
If I did find a pre-mapped stage 2 car and the paper showed it was done by a reputable company, seems like a no-brainer?

I did see some issues of OBD issues with theft, people plugging in a computer to the OBD port then cloning a key in a few seconds, I would guess this is an potential issue for all newer keyless vehicles and not specific to the fords? I know there's ways as an owner to make my car seems less appealing, discloc, odb delete options, placing it else where etc

I did actually try an ST forum (fiestastoc) but it seemed pretty much dead and didn't get any replies.

I had a ST2 for 4 years and kept the keys in one of these. RFID signal blocker boxes. Have a similar small wallet to keep key in when out and about - Adds a layer of security.. ( I'm not affiliated to Monojoy who make these products...!)

St3 over the 2 is equipment's levels, eg ST3 has cruise control, ST2 does not. Etc etc. I'm sure google could give the full list. Have a look and see if it suits you to pay for the ST3 levels of kit over the 2? AFAIK there's no difference outside the cabin.

My nephew and a pal both have Mountuned 215bhp upgrades. The increase is so small, I've just not bothered. Up to you.

As for security, rjfp's got it spot on, That pic posted is exactly what I have, Bought off amazon for a couple of quid. Works to!

Good luck with the search, brilliant cars.

From what I have read, stage 2 should be around 240hp with over 350nm of torque, stock is about 200hp with 270nm, I wouldn't just go with remap it would be with bigger inter cooler and other required mods, probably £1500 worth of stuff, although maybe that's what the Mountuned 215 option might be but that seems to be stage 1.

A lot of the costs seem to be on intakes and expensive hoses which I'd be happy to shop around, waiting for ebay 10-20% off vouchers.

I'll look in to the Faraday pouches, a lot of people say they wear out so got to keep an eye on them. Seems most of the ST get stolen by thieves smashing the window and then just using the OBD port to clone the key in a few seconds.

Prices seem quite buoyant on 1.6 Fiesta ST's now. Several dealers have offered me £9k for the Mrs 64 plate ST2. Maybe one owner and 32k miles helps.

I was looking at 17 plate <50kmiles a year ago and you'd get one for circa 8.5/9k. Now it's 12k!

Personally I'd wait until the prices change back to normality.

May be a long wait.

Got £7300 on a 13 plate ST2 with 52k miles, I was the second owner - was quite happy with that and it's appeared on AT for 10k!

ST3 added keyless entry, climate, auto fold mirrors and cruise control from memory. I used a key box like the one above and a disklok when parked up on my drive.

Can remove the ODB fuse if leaving the car unattended for a long time or have the port relocated to somewhere more secure if you're massively worried.

The plastic recirc valve and sound symposers are weak points to upgrade if you remap or modify. They don't seem to suffer with any other weaknesses, gearbox and engines are solid. Higher mileage ones will probably need a suspension refresh by now.

My old one: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202202142...

Babied for the 5 years I had it, full Ford service history, recently refurbed wheels (apart from one little nick on the rear) and always fed vpower or momentum 99.
