Focus STD what are they like?
Discussion
I asked in the car buying forum but got one reply “get a golf gtd”...
I fancy a Focus STD to replace my A3 diesel. I do about 20k a year. But what are they like? Iv read/ watched reviews that say they handle well and do 67mpg? If that’s true it’s amazing sounds high though! So are any owners on here? I hate going to the petrol station and would like a 500 mile plus range. Is this possible?
Thanks

I've got the current focus estate not st but still a 2 litre diesel averages around 55mpg. Mixture of cross country, motorway and ventures into london.
Think I get nearly 5 to 600 miles to a 45 litre tank. I seem to be topping up the adblue with 5l every 3000 miles.
Like you, my annual mileage is around 22k have had it over 2 years and would consider another. Theres a bit more space in it compared to vw rivals and a nicer chassis.

I had a Mk3 focus with the 150bhp diesel engine, basically the same as in the ST but less power. From what I remember the best I managed was about 60-65mpg on a long run, average was probably low to mid 50's. In terms of economy I don't think there's much difference between that and the version in the ST.
It has a 13 gallon fuel tank, so good for well over 500 miles on a tank, 600-700+ if you like to live life dangerously
I've gone from that to a Mk3 Focus ST (petrol). Before Covid I was doing about 15-20k miles a year, mainly cross country B-road commutes. Ride is perfectly fine (yes, not S-class levels of refinement, but perfectly acceptable), although mine is on the 18" "snowflake" wheels as opposed to the 19" which I think can be a bit firm.
