Talk to me about the duratec 3.0 v6
Discussion
I mostly know about the 2.5, the 3.0 being an evolution. Porsche design for Ford, with Cosworth designed heads. Like most modern(ish) engines, need a regular oil change with the correct oil. Plugs supposedly last 50k miles, but people think they last forever, and because they can be hard to access (rear bank) they don't get changed. The Jaguar version of the 3.0 has a problem with the oil pick-up in the sump being starved in some conditions. Nightmare to access to do a clutch change. The 3.0 was rated at 220bhp, but usually dynos at just over 240bhp. Drinks like Oliver Reed (don't say who?). Makes a superb sound.
Agree with Zad,in addition they have an issue with a camshaft tick on the front bank at the waterpump end. Caused by excessive tension of the pump drive belt, its an easy fix,Ford issued a TSB on it at the time, did it on my ST220,dealer wanted to fit a new engine in a 5k mile car. Great engine though but not as quick as you would think and thirsty,my opinion, great sound though thru the right exhaust.
They like to leak oil from everywhere, which if the levels not checked regularly, they run low quick and well and engine low on oil wont last long!
Ive sorted the worst of the leaks on my 220, cam covers and sump gaskets renewed. But still have a leak which is from the side of the engine and next to no access. So will be and engine out job I believe. Maight do it one day, probably wont!
Mines on 140k and goes well and sounds spot on
