Its not my car, its my wifes car

It had had a few problems, jerking, revs dropping off, so I called a mobile mechanic, he had a look at it and said it was the fuel injector

I thought thats okay

But I need the part number

Tried calling Fords, yes they got em in stock @ 550 quid

I thought that is a bit steep, so started looking for something cheaper

They all want a part number

I have no idea how to get the part number, I dont know if its on the injector

I dont want to take it out just yet (until I got the part number and ordered it)

Its a Fords Fiesta, 5 door, 1400 cc diesel (on the log book it says variant F6JB1

Has anyone any idea on the part number ?

There are different variations, I can get you the Finis code if you supply your registration number but its not always accurate and the only way to find out is to have the injector in your hand.

I would say that your will most likely end up replacing all 4 as its very rare to get away with just one.

You will also need the bolts, and plastic spacers and cam cover gasket.

After a lot of driving around to various suppliers and garages, I managed to get the OEM number

I ended up going on eBay and searching on there (so many just don’t put the part number on there, just the engine size and the year)

I found one seller, he had the correct one, the part number was on the side, along with engine size, year, he sent me a photo of it, it was brand new, had all the plugs and plastic protectors on it
It arrived today
It looks the same, just a lot newer
It will be going in during the next few days (dependant of the weather) it’s kerbside mechanics for me, just a tent in case it rains

I’ll let you know how it goes on

Get the plastic spacers too - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182656000335, they leak a lot and leak around the injectors and melt all of the bits surrounding. You may need to code the injector in so don't throw the old injector away as you will need the serial number.

WE very rarely fit 1 injector and if we do we usually say that it will be back within weeks for the other 3.

Now I have no idea what you mean coded to the car
It’s a big standard 08 Fiesta, not souped up, no go faster stuff fitted
Just used to and from work and shopping

On a lot of ford diesels you need to plug a diagnostic laptop in and tell the car the serial number of the new injector or it will run like crap, had to do it on my 06 mondeo.

Sounds like I’ll have to call a mobile mechanic or try and get it to a garage

I don’t need a laptop on my Jeep 😊

You cannot just swap injectors, you need to delete the old injector from the ECU, then add the serial number of the new injector to the ECU otherwise it won't run, well it will but on 3 cylinders.

Until it’s fitted I have no idea if it will run, don’t even know if it will start
It’s going to be a case of suck it and see, then give a mobile mechanic a call to do any computer work on it

It might run, i have got away with it on dci renaults before.
When they make the injectors they dont all end up flowing the same amound of fuel as each other, they are all slightly different enough to cause running problems. They test each one to see how much fuel comes out then code that figure into the serial number. When the car knows the serial number of all 4 injectors it can vary the fuel delivery to each cylinder to compensate for the differences so each cylinder gets exactly the right amount of fuel. Its pot luck if your new injector is close enough to your old one for it to matter. Take detailled photos of the label on the injector before you fit it and if it runs like crap you can have the ecu coded to the new injector. The ford diagnostic lead i got to do it was only £20 off ebay.

I have just found out the fitter hadn’t been able to get the injector out, he said it’s seized in thre

It’s certainly taken him long enough for him to let me know

Mr Clutch said they haven’t been able to do much, they just can’t get any staff, all the mechanics left after Brexit

I called the head office and was told that 3 months is unacceptable, but they can’t do anything about it if they don’t have the staff

They have said they are advertising everywhere

Which is all very nice but don’t help me

I’m now trying to find a garage that can do this work, but if it’s seized in there where do I go from here ?

So the first mistake was mr clutch … you are better off getting it recovered to another garage, the only injectors I’ve known that seize in are the ones in the Vauxhall vivaro.

People can drill them out, it costs more but they can be removed.

It was incredible
The wife’s car had been at Mr Clutch for 3+ months, they had one fitter during this time and all he was MOTs
Then I remembered a garage I had used before I retired
All I had to was get it from Mr Clutch to West Drayton
Called the AA, no problem, they towed me over there
Mark had a shifting, he said no problem, I’ll call you when it’s done
4 hours later, he called me, all sorted, come and get it

After 3 months at Mr Clutch, it’s done in 4 hours

My missy’s is well pleased and so am I, no more taxi service

I'm picking it up in the morning, I asked him how much (expecting the worst)

He just said we'll sort something out

Now I have no idea what the going rate is, not even mates rates

Any suggestions on how much I should give him ?

I was expecting a horrendous bill from Mr Clutch (but they hadnt even checked it really and when we picked it up the battery was flat, so to my thinking they had done nothing)

Now I dropped the AA bloke a tenner, because I was chuffed the way he got us to Malc's garage)

So what do I give Malc ?

To give you some idea, we would normally charge around 2-3 hours labour to remove, clean up and refit with new seals and spacers, As a paying job £200-£250 all in. We are £66 per hour. That's for all 4 injectors. If we needed to code then i'd stick another 1/2 hour on for the road test and coding. Depending on the history and if they were new injectors we would suggest a new fuel filter.

He just changed the one, did all the checks, new fuel filter

I am assuming he coded it

Runs like a new car, no smoke out of the back

I dropped him an extra 20 quid
