My car (2013 Mondeo Mk4 2.0 TDCI) recently went through its MOT with flying colours, except, for an advisory on rear tyres:
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge 3mm (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge 3mm (5.2.3 (e))
This MOT was completed on the 3rd November 2021.

Back in September 2020 I fitted two new rear tyres. as the previous tyres had also worn on the inside edge. After fitting the new rear tyres in September 2020 I made sure to get 4 wheel alignment at Savoy Tyres. I did this to ensure the tyres wouldn't wear unevenly again.

Total mileage between rear tyre alignment (Oct 2020) and 2021 MOT: 13,354

I've since phoned Savoy Tyres and explained the situation. They're blaming it on road conditions and that there could be numerous external factors. They've offered a discount on tyres and another free alignment.

To me this is generous but pretty disappointing also.

Should I fight for more? This isn't anywhere near enough miles for rear tyres!

Also, could I have an underlying issue with the rear suspension causing this? Something the MOT test wouldn't detect?

Any Mondeo MK4 experts out there?

Thanks

Rob

What's the make and model of the tyres you've had fitted?

Are you regularly driving over speed bumps with your wheels on the sloping sides of the bump and the main bit of the bump underneath the car?

On the subject of suspension wear, what mileage has the car done and has the car had any suspension components replaced?

Are there any adjustments available to the rear of a Mondeo ?
The majority of cars do not have any adjustments .

You can't blame the tyre fitters / aligners if there are no adjustments available on the rear of the car .

Tyres are Michelin Primacy HP4

Most of my driving is motorway, very little over the kind of bumps you're talking about.

The car has done 173000 miles and I don't think its ever had any rear suspension components replaced?

It could very well be down to other external factors, suspension bush wear,

It's also possible they just didn't align it properly or their machine was out of calibration.

I'm not sure what Savoy Tyres are but for me I have a local independent I've used for many years. Generally I would buy the tyres I need and then he'll fit them for £15 per corner and then I pay £60 for an alignment (4 wheels, toe and rear camber)

Never had a problem with tyres wearing unevenly.

There are many bushes on the rear suspension of a MK4 Mondeo that will be worn at that mileage but not necessarily be picked up by the mot.

BTW, what do you mean by it with passed with flying colours? Did they raise a flag or is it a special certificate? confusedsmile

Right so a suspension refresh is on the cards!
