Focus ST250 Engine Oil
Discussion
Hello people
Got abit of a conundrum with what engine oil to use. I have a 2016 Focus ST and in the service book (all completed by Ford) it has always been 5w20 but to me that seems too low for this sort of engine. Now I have looked online and there seems to be a confusion as to which oil to use. Opie Oils says to use 5w20, Carparts4less says to use 5w30 A5 and forums are a mixture. I have downloaded the manual via my VIN No and it says to use specification WSS-M2C913-C which when put into Google is 5w30 A5, at the bottom of the list of fluids to use for oil, coolant etc it has this statement 'If you are unable to find an engine oil that meets the specification defined by WSS-M2C913-C, it is acceptable to use a SAE 5W-20 engine oil that is defined by ACEA A5/B5'. I know the manual says to use WSS-M2C913-C (5w30) then why has Ford used 5w20 and other sites are mainly saying 5w20. I'm confused as to which one would be best. What do people use in their ST or what would you recommend.

^ that’s his problem though, the manual says one thing but Ford are doing something else
Exactly, I'd glady do what Ford say but they've contradicted themselves. Did read somewhere on a forum that Ford did start off using 5w20 but they then changed their mind a year or so later to 5w30, not sure of the reasons, and don't know how true this is either. Maybe the Ford garage have just gone off what the previous services used and not read the memo, hence the consistent use of 5w20.Edited by LeeHabbers on Thursday 19th August 22:31
