A quick question, whilst discussing steering wheels on the ev Audi which isn't exactly circular I seem to recall the 73'ish Cortinas steering wheel was off round, sort of slightly oval, any one confirm that?

Yes, I do remember that, it was one of the Cortinas, not sure exactly which age.

Odd that back then cars were slated for having non-round steering wheels, especially the Allegro.

But now it's cool.

Proof that the Allegro was years ahead of its time.

I seek to recall that the hub wasn't in the centre, but I don't remember the wheel not being round.

Pretty sure the wheel was round and the centre part was an inverted V with fake holes which sloped inwards which may have helped it look off kilter.
I have a brochure in the attic but can't be bothered looking though I can see it clearly in my mind - in brown.

Thanks for that, you are probably right, the memory banks in the little grey cells deteriorate with age.

It only came up as my son is about to lease an e-Audi and he sent me a pic of the steering wheel, and I seemed to recall the 71 Cortina having a steering wheel which wasnt exactly circular.

Thanks anyway.

For info, this is the Audi steering wheel.

The steering wheel was round and central to the column, it just looked a bit odd with its two spoke boomerang design.

Hang on, hang on you can’t just drop that little chestnut without pictures of firstly the cars and secondly your most recent psychiatric report.

I will have a shufty, but may be the only pic, my brother in law drove from Folkestone to Rosyth one Christmas, and this is him parked outside our married quarters.
