I bought a car 2nd hand from a dealer roughly about 5 months ago which was the Ford focus 2013 1.6 ecoboost. Before this I was completely unaware of the issues it had faced with overheating. I called up ford for them to run a diagnostic but I will be charged because apparently this model is has not been a model issued for recall. On the other hand I felt the dealer that actually sold it, should of been aware of these problems when running the MOT. As the mot states "engine oil temperature measurement was by-passed (cooling fan cut in). So I am at a point I don't know what to do next or who to hold accountable.

there is a Ford Ecoboots facebook group with lots of useful information for this sort of thing (seems to be fairly common).

I would recommend in the first instance going back to the dealer that sold you the car. Did the car come with any sort of warranty? You are beyond the statutory 3 months that the dealer has to provide, so this may be difficult even though there are some well known problems. There have been instances of Ford themselves paying out, so supposing your car has a full service history, if you don't get anywhere with the dealer follow some of the steps on the facebook groups with regard to approaching Ford UK.

We have a focus 1.6 ecoboost and it had a recall a few years ago to supposedly fix the issue. Do you know if your car has had the recall? I believe the recall simply added some additional coolant level sensors to try and give the driver a bit more warning. There have been issues with coolant pipes, and also of coolant leaking into the cylinders seemingly through poor design.

Thanks for the reply, I believe the warranty was only 3 months so there isn't much the dealer can actually do. I have contacted and they have agreed to run a diagnostic check but this will cost. They did state if there was an issue they would help pay for it on the system there is no recall stated for that car and the ford dealerships are quite adamant about it even though the customer service seems more open.
