Ford Escort Mk4 Xr3i Cabriolet 1.6 CVH Low Oil Pressure
Discussion
Hi looking for some help on my mk4 escort 1.6 cvh. K jetronic.
Got low oil pressure and drops to almost nothing when it warms up ( within a couple of minutes - cars fuel pressure high as well but dont want to run it to much until the heads getting oil)
Replaced the main and con rod bearings , no change ,also put in a high performance pump and cleaned pick up strainer to no avail.
Also had the head refurbed.
Any help would be WELL appreciated thanks.

Was the oil pump primed before fitting?
If you're using an aftermarket gauge it could be reading wrong, or could be a faulty sender (that applies if you're going on the warning light).
I'd be starting with the cheapest first, try changing the sender or senders.
The tappets are loud , and i have a oil pressure gauge rigged up.If you're using an aftermarket gauge it could be reading wrong, or could be a faulty sender (that applies if you're going on the warning light).

Yea i loaded the pump with oil first
Hi, I see it's been a year since did you get it sorted?..
I have a very similar issue, good oil pressure until the oil heats up 70 degrees plus Then drops to .5bar 7 psi or less at tickover 950 rpm.
I've tried different oil 10 40 15 50 etc , Cars had shells in the mains and big ends and checked the end float gaps as I built it. To be fair shells were good and on standard sizes, All in spec. I have a top end lifter tick that starts on start up then goes then comes back when warm( pressure drops). I also put a new allegedly high pressure pump on too ( I dont believing high pressure fixes all as you just smash the oil at the pump creating heat). I'm thinking it's a worn lifter sleeve causing a larger gap once warm which is escaping my head pressure after the pump dropping the block oil passage chamber. It revs up and hold pressure , and as the old oil rule goes keeps 14 psi per 1000 rpm eg, strange to see such a differential between hot and cold engine and hot and cold oil viscosity . Any ideas guys?
