The father in laws mondeo needs a new battery and being handy with the spanner’s I’ve said I’ll change it for him.

He said the garage that did it before said it needs to be hooked up to the diagnostics to do a battery. I know some cars need to know that the battery has changed but I wouldn’t have thought a 10 year old mondeo that doesn’t have stop start would need that.

I know nothing about fords though so does anyone know if it’s a case of having to hook the car up or can I just pull it out and put a new one it.

The battery looks slightly awkward to change as the air filter housing has to come out but I should be ok with that.

I changed mine on my 2012 without programming it and it's been fine.

I scanned the ECU with forscan and while there is some stuff for coding the battery in the ECU, my computer wouldn't talk to it, so either it's not activated or it doesn't really matter.

Nice one thank you. I've got a cheap code reader so I'll scan before I start and again after just to make sure there aren't any issues.

Some of the Fords have an EFB battery, some have AGM, if its AGM then there is a chance it may need coding, but it only seems to be Minis and BMW's that always need coding.

Did the change over today, it was a bit awkward with pulling the air box out but got it all done in 20 minutes from getting the tools out of the boot of my car to putting them back in.

I scanned for faults before and after and it didn't show any codes. There was a bit of a heart in the mouth moment when I tried to start it for the first time and the dash came up engine malfunction and wouldn't start but I turned it off rescanned for faults which it didn't come up with any then tried to start again and it fired up no bother. No idea what caused it but its all fine now.

The old battery was just a conventional one so no issues with agm types etc.

Thanks for your assistance both,
