I have recently driven a remapped Zetec S, it was originally 90BHP, now 140BHP with remap, air filter, egr delete, just under 270 pounds of torque too.

I am very tempted to buy one myself, has anyone on here owned a remapped one and how do they compare to other diesels / petrols as it felt pretty decent for what it is.

I do over 20k per year, so a petrol isn’t an option, and 325d are too much on insurance as I am only 20.

Just wanting general reviews of people who own these.

Thank you.

Will it not lunch the gearbox with 300lb.ft on tap?

To be honest, given how good the 1.0 Ecoboost is, I'd be highly tempted to have one of those instead.

I’ve driven them funny enough, didn’t feel like a patch on the remapped Zetec S, took me by surprise to be honest!

You mean the eco-boom engine?

That one that explodes?

Yeah that's really a much better proposition....

The 1.0 ecoboom is one of the worst engines Ford has ever produced. Fair enough the initial problems with coolant loss was fixed after Ford had replaced an updated hose but it also suffers from head gasket failure which in a lot of cases cannot be fixed and requires a new engine. Remapping these just exacerbates the problem,it won't be an engine which does big mileage.

On the other hand remapping the 1.6 to such a level of torque usually requires an uprated clutch cover and plate to prevent slippage. Anything over this power output WILL lunch the gearbox..

I am sure they have declared their modification to their insurers. I am surprised this does not impact the insurance cost significantly.

My daughter has this very car, if this mod can be done legitimately with no great insurance impact, I will encourage her to follow the example - can I ask: who did the mapping?

Cheers, thank you for that. Was there much impact on the insurance?
Just on the off chance that you know - save me the bother of getting hopes raised! smile

It increased mine by £100 per year, but I pay monthly so didn’t seem to bad... can vary on insurance companies!

Op got lb ft and nm mixed up. Website says 125hp and 270nm.
