Have problem, I believe, with immobiliser, Sometimes the motor will turn over but not fire, when this happens I try various ploys, including locking and unlocking the doors and connecting up jump leads (which usually seems to work but could be coincidence)
Have all three keys but only one works and NOT the master key.
Ford dealer has had it for two days but can't find cause, saying that it could be immobiliser module or fuse box or wiring. They are unable to reprogramme the keys including a new one!
Any advice would be gratefully received, please help.
Also need a source for a pair of std front coil springs.

Whats the immobilser LED doing while it's not playing?

The fuse box was a common fault on Escort, water managed to track down the wiring looms and into the printed layers, windscreen leaks can also do it. but less likely unless it's had the screen out recently.

It can be all sorts of things. Prime suspect would be either an internal relay within the immobiliser, or a non-immobiliser related relay in the relay box (but of course failure would lead to a pretty good impression of an immobiliser doing its job). Possibly the fuel pump or ECU main power relays.

Hi, had to wait for the fault to re-occur, The LED is behaving normally and I can hear the pump running, there appears to be no spark!!!

If the light is coming on and then going out after a few seconds the system has carried out a self test and it's passed it, it's also decided that the code from the key is the correct one.

Only after that will it send the signal to the main engine management PCM and that will then turn on the fuel pump circuit.

The fact that the starter is cranking and you've got fuel pump action would also suggest that the fault lies else where.

Have you had the ignition components and the management system checked for fault codes.

If you can post back with some specific details of the car, build date etc it'll help.

Starting now! crank sensor was at fault. The key issue is was a red herring, (still to be resolved)
Many thanks for your posts and efforts, guys

The crank sensor (CKP) is a key component in the ignition system. without the signal the electronic ignition can't produce the spark at the correct time.
