Fiesta - Post Service Oil Change Warning
Discussion
Hi,
Hopefully a quick question. I had my Fiesta (Deisel. 2014) serviced in Jan at a main dealer.
It's July and the service warning is showing up every time I turn the ignition, demanding I take the car in for a service / oil change.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, lets assume the service was actually done in January.
I'm assuming this is as simple as they forgot to reset the counter to tell the vehicle it had been serviced.
Now this is the strange part - they've told me that unless the service counter has lapsed, they're completely unable to reset the internal service clock on the car computer.
Thinking about it a little, this makes absolutely no sense at all. It would imply anyone going in for a service/MoT slightly early would be hit en-mass by a swathe of cars reporting the car needs a service a mere week after it being conducted.
I would suggest it's far more likely they just didn't do it back in Jan.
They're telling me I need to book the vehicle in so they can "diagnose" why this is happening which means time off work, a 40 minute trip each way and the potential of having to drop the car off for an entire day.
Can anyone state if what I've been told about being unable to reset the counter is actually true, or is this (as I suspect) complete b****cks?
Cheers
Paul

The service schedule on your car will be a set number of miles(usually 12000) or annually whichever comes, and your cars internal clock will remember this. What has probably happened here is that your car has been serviced out of sequence with the previous one, so a reminder has appeared now because your car believes it is due a service even though it was done 6 months ago.
I cannot say for certain if a dealer can plug in and reset the internal counter at any time(although I don't see why not), but they are as you suspect talking bks anyway because the reset procedure when a reminder is showing is simple.
