Mk8 Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost genuinely superb
Discussion
Just got a Mk8 Fiesta in Magnetic with pan roof & 17" alloys. I just think the seventeens look better. We could have gone for a black car with eighteens but Magnetic is stunning in my opinion. The car is 125hp and with just over 70mls on the clock now I guess its still a little tight but im already really impressed with how this little unit produces its power. I Notice it seems to have a very short 1st gear but the remaining ratios seem very tall. You only need 3rd gear @ 30mph but its a very nice gearbox and I like the ratios. Steering feels meaty & responsive and the brakes have a nice feel and plenty of power.
Not had a Ford in the family for a long while but the quality is surprisingly good. We moved from a 2013 Polo GT and dont feel like its a step down in any way. There is a real feeling of luxury when you get in it. Im pretty sure you would have to spend quite a bit more than we did to get this kind of spec in something VAG and probably still not get the driver enjoyment. We have been used to a hard somewhat crashy ride in the Polo and although it handled well the Fiesta feels in a different league of handling and ride quality. The Polo also carried a lot of tyre noise where the Fiesta is really refined. Partly down to the Michelin Pilot Sports I guess and the improved sound insulation. Oh and the B&O system
But that 1.0 triple makes such a pleasing sound and is so smooth but gutsy. Anyway brilliant little car with the added fun ingredient. I can see us sticking with Ford. The experience made even better by our dealer (Trust Ford Wilmslow) who were just superb. They made it all about us and what we wanted. A new & welcome experience for us.
Anyway great story bro just thought somebody might find it interesting

I had a Mk7 100bhp Titanium X for five years and loved it.
The only real issues it had were a constantly leaking front driver wheel (I never sorted it out, just pumped it up) and the wiper stalk failed (but easy to source a replacement).
It was great to drive and cheap to run. My only real concerns were the longevity of the Ecoboost engine and the fact a cambelt change would have been prohibitively expensive (Ford used to say the 'cambelt in oil' would last the lifetime of the car, but then changed it to ten years IIRC).
However, if you swap cars every five years or so it makes a great deal of sense. I'd have another.

Yeah I’ve not heard any bad about the mk8 fiestas yet, other than the ugly back end. Hate to say it but they do seem a step up on the mk7 and that’s a tough act to follow.
I heard that too I also heard the Mk8 is the same size as a Mk1 Focus which partly explains the big car feel.I did over 2500 miles in 4 weeks back in January in a rented one. I thought it was a great little car, although I thought the fuel consumption could have been a little better.
I averaged 44 mpg over those 2500k miles, and it was pretty much all motorway mileage, sticking to the speed limits, travelling from Glasgow to Coventry and back again.

I also dont think the mpg will be mind blowing but its fine. I averaged 44 mpg over those 2500k miles, and it was pretty much all motorway mileage, sticking to the speed limits, travelling from Glasgow to Coventry and back again.

We had a 1.0 Auto Fiesta as a courtesy car. It was epic and the midrange torque was fantastic - better than the manual (I suspect a different map to safeguard the clutch)
As a package, it was great and I would say hard to beat. There wasn't one thing that i didn't like about it
I also cant get over how good the Mk8 is. It certainly is a torquey little unit in manual, not tried an auto. I have been a VAG fan boy for years but Ford are making some nice cars lately. Personally I think the Focus is a superb looking car too. As a package, it was great and I would say hard to beat. There wasn't one thing that i didn't like about it
My daughter has a “student” 2010 Fiesta Titanium diesel, drove from Liverpool to Edinburgh and back (for the rugby, we lost ) the other weekend. Way more comfortable than my Golf R, 997 and way more economical than my XFR.
For the roads and the (horrendous) weather, not actually materially slower at making progress, Ford “student” cars are excellent.
No, I am not swapping, but I was impressed.

Bought my first Ford in November after 10 years of almost exclusive VW ownership.

They do seem to get good reviews but I was disappointed in mine. I had a 2016 Focus ST estate and at the end of my PCP thought I'd take the "sensible" option and bought a 140ps ST-Line X, fully loaded with almost every option.
Big mistake, only lasted 3 months before I traded it in for another Focus ST.
I expected it to feel slower after the Focus ST but it had no pull from low down and needed a heavy right foot to get any performance out of it which resulted in poor fuel economy, not that much better than the Focus ST.
It also didn't handle as well, seats were uncomfortable and the boot too small.
Guess I'm not ready for sensible yet!

I agree with you on the economy its not going to sip fuel but its comparable with our old Polo GT. I find the performance good, not blistering by any means but good. And that brings me to the handling which I think is in another class again when compared to our old Polo GT which was good. The steering is pointy & direct and because of the ride quality it stays where you point it. So you carry more speed though corners with confidence. Im very curious to try the Focus now because if its better than this it must be really good. Big mistake, only lasted 3 months before I traded it in for another Focus ST.

I’m looking for small hatchback to replace my diesel Connect but all these 3 cylinder petrols are rubbish on fuel if you go near a motorway which I do.
I have use of a 2013 125bhp and when sitting at a GPS 70 mph (Indicated 75/6 mph) I see 48-50 mpg. This is on either a Friday Newbury to Cumbria run or Sunday Cumbria to Newbury return. This is a 270 mile run taking just under 5 hours so around a 54 mph average speed. The car is good if a little noisy at this task but a real nice back road car. This car is on 116k now and still going strong.I have done the maths on a 125 petrol van vs 120 diesel and covering 30k - 40k the petrol still tips it for me. The maths includes a guess on litre to litre costs, expected mpg, purchase cost spread (£1800), insurance equal. and value after four years.
Partner has just picked up a Mk8 Titanium 1.0 100ps version.
Absolutely light years ahead of other cars in its class and price we tried (New Swift & New Micra), the engine is absolutely superb even in its lowest tune.
6 Speed box has meant 50mpg is realistic with a motorway commute.
Build seems great as well, no rattles at all in the cabin.
Do not miss the Golf it replaced one bit.
