Sorry if this has been previously posted, but I couldn't find a thread with the same combined issues at once.

I had the car for a few years now.

Shortly after getting it, it developed an intermittent issue with the dash whereby I would start then engine but none of the dials would kick into life for about 10-20 seconds (could rev the engine but dials would not read it out). This became more and more frequent and now it's a permanent feature which I just ignore as its not too much of a problem to wait.

Now however it has developed a new one.
When I turn the key it sometimes acts as if the immobilizer is still on (various dash lights come one but it doesn't even attempt to turn over). Weirdly I can often solve this issue by getting out, locking it with the key and unlocking again (lost the remote locking ages ago). This wasn't so bad when it was once in a blue-moon, but now it's like 50% of the time and I'm worried that one day it just won't start.

I have a second transponder key I could try but the fact that the cure seems to be locking/unlocking suggests to me its a computer issue. I don't really want to take it to a garage undiagnosed because, as is the way with all intermittent issues, it will probably be on its best-behavior when I take it in

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before or has an idea what it might be. I'm hoping it's not going to be some expensive electrical issue as I'm only planning on keeping the thing for a year and it's not worth much anyway.

Thanks for the help

Novexx

Sounds like it could be a faulty instrument cluster - a diagnostic plug-in should confirm.
