Mk7 Mk7.5 and Mk8 fiesta.
Discussion
Obviously the Mk8 is a bit bigger, and has slightly different styling outside and in (floaty dash, etc). But underneath I believe they are based on the same platform.
Mk8 (including the ST) will only have the newer 3 pot ecoboost engines, whereas the Mk7/7.5 still came with various iterations of the old Sigma engines.
What specifically are you after?

I want an early, tatty, cheap one with the 998 3cylinder turbo engine. One of the remapping suppliers list the MK8 and Mk7.5 but not the Mk7 which suggests there may be a difference. The key thing for me is the weight so a poverty spec one with the least kit would be best, don't care at all about cosmetic differences. If there was one with manual windows and no air con that would be good.
I read on the inter web(so plainly it is absolutely correct) that some 998 engines had an aluminium block and some have iron, if that is true there would presumably be a weight difference.

The ecoboost engine was only available on the facelift (mk7.5) onwards , so the earliest car you will get is a very late 2012 (my girlfriend has a Feb 2013 62 plate which is an early build)
They are a great and sought after engine, so cars aren’t cheap. For example my girlfriend’s cost 7200 in July 2017 (which was over 1k more than the equivalent diesel and a lot more than a similar age 1.25) and if she had bothered to look after it would still easily sell in the mid 5s at a dealer.
The ecoboost was not sold in basic spec, the lowest spec was Zetec which came with electric windows, air con, heated windscreen sync bluetooth etc.
The basic spec cars only came with the old 1.25 engine but it still had electric windows, CD player etc.

I believe the 998 engines have an iron block, it’s the same basic engine in the mk7.5 and mk8. The 1.5 3cylinder in the new mk8 fiesta st is aluminium.Gassing Station | Ford | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
