HI all,

I'm going to start with I'm not a Mondeo man per say. I currently drive an 2014 Lotus Exige V6S Roadster, it has 2 seats, a 3.5L Superchraged V6, a radio and a steering wheel.

But, I have just bought a Mondeo.

My previous cars to this were a m140i running 460BHP with a Qauife LSD, a VX220 2.2 Supercharged and a Megane RS 250 running 300bhp, so I'm really not a Mondeo guy.

I'm really genuinely quite pleased with this purchase if I'm honest, and all for just a few grand. An almost 10 year old, 100k Mile, Titanium X with Nav, 2.0tdci (163), FSH with proof and MOT. It has and my god what a list - Keyless Start, Auto Lights, Auto Wipers, Command Screen in Dash, Sat Nav, Dual Zone Climate, Heated seats, Parking Sensors, Half Leather, Electric Seats, Voice Control, Bluetooth Functionality, Handsfree, Air Conditioning, Lights that turn round corners,6 CD changer, electric mirrors, tinted windows and a USB Port.

My Lotus is pretty bare, and I accept that, but my BMW was 'well specc'd' and was missing loads of these options, and it was built in 2016! The car (as it seems so far) appears absolutely solid, my new job requires a circa 55miles round commute, something I've never done before. My requirements for this is reliability, comfort, equipment and cost. After some serious research I can't think of what else I could have bought that can match!

Are these an ultimate 'bargain' daily drive? What else out there can really get you more for the money as a daily?

I have to agree. I have a Boxster for fun but my daily commuter and all round workhorse is a 2010 Mondeo Titanium X Sport with the 200bhp petrol turbo engine and a powershift gearbox. It has all the equipment you list and provides quiet, comfortable transport with a good sound system and plenty of performance for everyday use. It came with an immaculate service and MOT record and had just 50K miles when I bought it last April for £5800. Since then it's needed a new battery but nothing else. (Beware, the first sign of the battery on its way out was failure of the keyless entry system, locking me out and scrambling the key recognition system so the engine wouldn't start even when I'd used the emergency key to get in. The nice man from the RAC sorted it.)

Apart from that hiccup, it shows every sign of going on indefinitely and now the weather is getting colder the heated windscreen and heated seats are coming into their own!

Titanium X models are always well spec'd, we had a 58 plate Focus TDCI 5 door and it had every option fitted at the time. It was initially a dealer managers car so I bet he just ticked everything.

That cars replacement is a 61 plate, another 2.0 TDCi Titanium X but this time an estate, again huge spec but no sat nav on this one.

There are some proper high spec bargains about in the 7 to 10 year old range for both Mondeo and Focus variants.

I’m seriously considering exiting my Audi A6 lease to go Mondeo. I pay more in a year’s lease than I would need to buy a decent Mondeo

Good value certainly and comfortable on a long run. But the sheer size puts me off as a commuting choice.

I'm just about to pick up a near identical spec Mondy, all except the sat nav.

I was also very impressed with the feature content and the handling was a noticeable change from the numb Golf R setup.
I'm hoping I don't miss the R's power but 163bhp has been enough for many people over the years so I'm sure I will survive.
