Hi,.I recently bought a 58 plate Focus 1.8tdci Titanium, the service history shows a timing belt replacement at 8years and 50k, but, and here's the issue, I can't get hold of the garage to find out exactly what has been replaced, I was warned that it has a "wet belt" in place of the lower chain used on the older 1.8tdci engines and at 11 years old is quite possibly on borrowed time so I took the car to my usual garage who at first quoted for the job and then decided they couldn't do it as they don't have the specialist locking tool for it, so I contacted another garage who were recommended to me, he looked the car up by it's number plate and told me the car has a chain one end and a belt the other!!!! All I really want is to know for definite is whether the car has a chain or a belt!!!! Somebody help, PLEASE!!!!!

Thanks twing, it's confirmed my fears but I've found a Ford specialist in Portsmouth who's managed to get me in on Tuesday/Wednesday, he's doing both belts, water pump, oil flush and oil and filter change for £940 inc vat, a lot of money but it means I won't have to worry about it for another 10 years!!!
