Ford Fiesta 2012 - reverse stops working intermittently
Discussion
Last week my 2012 Fiesta Zetec started having issues while I'm reversing - basically, it starts making a grinding sound and stops reversing altogether (as in neutral). I have to select the reverse gear again, it goes a couple meters and then loses grip again.
It gets worse by each day, meaning this happens more and more often.
I will inevitably take it to a repair shop. What should I expect? Transmission/clutch changed? Do warranties usually cover this fault, mine is not really clear in this case - it's a mechanical fault, but is it "wear and tear"?

Fiesta IB5 gearboxes are renowned for this - not engaging reverse properly & then grinding or jumping out of gear.
It helps if you select 1st before going into reverse & you can usually feel a light thump from the gearbox when reverse has been properly engaged (before letting the clutch up). If you don't feel that light thump, reverse probably hasn't been selected -go back to neutral, let the clutch up & then try again.
A worn clutch can make this issue worse, but it can happen without clutch wear - just an "operational feature".
