I had been having some problems with Android Auto on my MY17 Mondeo with Sync 3.

I tried updating the Sync 3 by connecting it to my home Wi-Fi but it took forever and I couldn't tell if it was actually doing anything.

So I then found this webpage https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support...

Entered the VIN for the car, downloaded the file, transferred it to USB, plugged it into the car, went for a drive and about 25 minutes later everything was updated and Android Auto is working fine again.

Have you tried getting waze to work?

Have a brand new transit with sync 3, waze might work, might not, might work for a bit then have a hissy. Trying to use a podcast app at the same time slows waze to the point you have to manually scroll the map, which incidentally persitently keeps orientating itself wrongly and you're having to think in mirrors to work out where you need to go.

All seems a bit pants frankly, like the system lacks the specs to run apps properly, like it's a 5 year old phone with a poo processor or not enough ram. Probably end up using the phone or tablet screen for nav and let st 3 just do audios which is annoying.

Android Auto is pants, regardless of the platform. I avoid using it and just use CarMode Ultra on my phone fed through bluetooth, I can live without having stuff on the car screen.
