It's not mine but my next door neighbours 13 plate Focus with 59,000miles on.

A few years ago the coolant pipe broke and the local Ford dealer* was going to charge until I spotted a recall notice.

This week on the motorway the EML came on (check oil) and the engine stopped immediately. Local garage checked the oil level and it seemed fine but couldn't figure it out so the car is booked into the local main dealer this Monday.

Apparently last year this local dealer* charged them 2k to fix the same EML/oil check issue.

Before my elderly neighbour gets another big bill for the same issue is this a known issue with a better fix that won't cost 2k?

Is it as simple as the oil level was low ?

If there garage is a member of the blue oval trade club there is a technical helpline number available to them, they can run through a list of checks and advise if there are any other issues or further revisions to the coolant pipe.

I think there is still an issue with some of the engines and some dealers are still replacing them out of warranty, our local dealer was carrying out at least 3 engine changes a week.

I’ve seen this on a 2012 focus 1.0, same oil pressure warning followed by knocking from engine,
oil level was ok, found the strainer mesh on oil pump pickup completely blocked by what appeared to be fibres of the timing belt flaking off,
destroyed bottom end unfortunately

I'd get them to take it to a good Indy & have it read first,

It was recovered to a indie first who chaingec the oil and filter thinking this would cure it.

I'll do some digging and get the 2k invoice. Will be able to see exact dates of work done and what was done.

She says it still drives but gets gradually slower. That does match of the timing belt has been thrown on the one that you dealt with?

There is a problem with certain 1.0 eco boost engines and Ford may well replace the engine out of warranty but this will depend on whether the service schedule had been adhered to.
Apparently in some countries there are class actions going through. Mainly for coolant issues. You don't say what engine the car has.

It's the 1.0 engine.

A while back the coolant pipe burst on the motorway and the dealer replaced with the fix/recall one.

I'm now wondering if the subsequent 2k repair bill could have been related to the pipe burst...but we'll never know. The dealer won't care.
