Ford Mondeo once off smoke from the exhaust
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 2011 Ford Mondeo Estate 2.0 TDCI. 90,000miles on the clock. I was driving home last week when there was suddenly white smoke from the exhaust which lasted for about 5 seconds. No change in the engine behaviour. No strange noises.
Fearing the worst I pulled over to work out what was going on but the gas from the exhaust was perfectly normal - no oily odour or visible smoke - and the engine continued to run smoothly with no loss of power. I drove it home and the car behaved flawlessly. No smoke regardless of revs or load.
I got a mechanic to take a look at the car but he found no fault codes, a good oil level, no contamination of the oil and no evidence of oil leaks. He ran it for some time and didn't get any more smoke. He checked the DPF state and it was ok. The only thing he picked up was that the live OBD read out was intermittently flashing up a low pressure warning but it was not sustained and didn't result in a fault code. He also thought there might be an unusual noise coming from the top end of the engine but I don't think the note has changed so this might just be a bit of confirmation bias (or wishful thinking from me!)
I'm going to take it to an engine specialist over the weekend but I thought I'd see whether this is a known problem with the Mondeo engine or whether anyone else has any ideas.
Cheers,
Mark
