So I sold my old TVR around last April as I wanted a Mk2 Focus RS.. preferably in green, standard and as low miles and best condition as I could afford. Now this year has been busy and hectic to say the least, moving house etc...but does that excuse doing no more than around 300 miles in 18 months or so? It has been serviced on the dot and MOTd. Fitted Milltek decat and exhaust and REVO 2, also have a new KMS S18 waiting to go on incase I feel the need for more noise wink. All work carried out by SCC in St Albans..

Anyone else bought their weekend sunny day toy and use it the same or even less miles?

Still love the car, but I think I really should use it more scratchchin

I sold my toy this year , ( a caterham ) for similar reasons not getting out in it as much as I would have liked , so I bought a mk3 focus rs to use as a daily it's been great so far and almost as much fun as the caterham , and I get to drive it every day , win win really

I’m very similar, have a Tvr sat in the garage most of the year but have thought about moving to a Mk3 RS recently. I know I will miss that noise when I start it up though!
Cars like yours are meant to be driven within an inch of their lives!

I've never understood buying a car and not using it, i always use my cars as much as possible come rain snow or shine, we pay all this money for the cars, may aswell enjoy them at every opportunity!

When I got my New Beetle convertible MoT'd a couple of months ago, the tester commented on my huge mileage in the previous 12 months - 300 miles ! It's normally less than 100, but as I had the cam belt done I had a burst of enthusiasm for a couple of weekends. I really should make more of an effort to use it, especially in the summer.

Get out and use it more when you have the time, I planned to do that with my mk1 but I enjoy using it at weekends and the two winters I left it laid up the clutch slipped for the first thousand miles then it would be fine so the last couple of years I've used it all year round apart from when salt has been put on the roads and its been fine so I just use whenever I feel like it now.

On the plus side you won't be losing any money in depreciation having it sat there!

It depends what else you have though. For example I have a modded Megane R26. It's brilliant fun but our BMW 120d auto does the daily stuff better and the Z4 has a convertible roof. Unless its a hoon or track day the other cars are better and so get used more.

My green RS became my 2nd car last September (and my first car doesn't move during the week).

I took it out a week or two ago and while driving worked out it cost me £1,000 a year even before I drove it anywhere, just to have a 2nd weekend car...

I'm not much better either. Main car drives about 10k a year. Second car maybe 2k. The 'garage filler' is about 600 miles a year. Currently getting it out of the garage is a ball ache as the car is big and garage is small, so the journey has to be really worth it. However, moving to a new house later in year with a bigger garage so intending to use it a lot more then. smile

Mine has only been out once since my previous post and that was an unplanned visit to the vets.

I had a supercharged Elise a few years back. One year winter closed in during October, rainy and cold. I put the car in the garage. In May the following year the weather hadn't changed! £20k car, £600 insurance, road tax, MoT and all without using it! I sold it and got an Evora which did not fit in the garage and could be used all year a round

Just got my insurance through, £100 cheaper.

Reckon that saves me about ten pounds every time I drive it. rofl
