Hello,

I own this car for a few years, bought it at 220000 km (135000 miles) and it now shows 30000km more.

Issues:

- I feel like the car lacks some of its original 226 HP. The engine runs great but lacks torque under 4000 rpm, it shows good performance but high way speed tops at 230 kph instead of 250 kph? (143mph instead of 155).

- It burns a bit of oil, I need to check how much exactly.

- I have is a random misfire at low rpm (<2000rpm) when under high load.

- Fault Code P0443 randomly appearing (Evaporative emission system purge control valve circuit), I do not think it is related though.

I replaced:

- Ignition coil, with no success.

Considering the mileage of the car, I was thinking:

- worn out pistons rings?
- obstructed cat?
- valves seals?

I would like to check the cylinders pressures but I do not know what values I should get?

Thank you!

My bro used to run one (3ltr I'm assuming)
He said to check the following apparently common issues with low power/misfire
Breather hoses? In particular the one under the inlet manifold.
Ht leads (you say you have done coilpacks?)
If you've had it serviced did they use the correct sparkplugs? These engines can be a bit funny with anything other than the specified motorcraft' plugs.
Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply wink

I did replace the spark plugs after i bought the car but I did not remember any power difference, and the misfires appeared later. But checking their spec it looks like I installed Denso VT20 but they recommend Denso ZT20. I do not remember how I came out with that spec, I need to investigate this.

I replaced the coil pack but not the leads, correct.

I will check the breather hoses, when you say under the intake manifold I imagine I will need to dismount it right? Anyway if I replace the spark plugs I will have to.

Thank you

I checked and the spark plugs are correct, ZT20 is the Iridium Power from Denso and the VT are the Denso Iridium Tough. So there should be no problem there.

Hi guys, for information I solved the misfires issue by replacing the ingnition HT leads, by new OEM spec ones.
