Hi I am looking to buy a Mk7 or Mk6 Fiesta zetec s for a second car and can't decide on whether I would like a petrol or a diesel, I am looking to modify the car in the future to look nicer and maybe performance whise so I am unsure what to pick, any opinions to help me?

Petrol all the way. The Mk 6 STs tend to be better looked after and my 2.0 returned about 37 mpg and was cheap to insure. Only 150 bhp.

The Mk 7 1.0 offers up to 140hp but again, I couldn't resist the ST.

Yeah I really like the Mk6 st I think they look really tidy and good when they are well looked after but there is something about the Mk7 rear that makes me like them more. I did look at the mk7 ecoboost and think they can be mountuned, the red edition is expensive but looks so clean

I loved the Speed Blue of my Mk 6 ST but then bought a black Mk 7 ST which I've just traded in on a Spirit Blue ST with the 215 Mountune upgrade. It seems no huge advance on the standard ST but costs a bit more to insure. A stock ST is possibly easier to insure than a modified Zetec. Regardless, The Zetec only had 5 gears and just wasn't as sorted as the ST.

Yeah the blue Mk7 at look the part I have to admit and maybe it is better going with a st, at the moment I have a mini one 2005 and that has 90bhp not sure on torque but I want a upgrade. What is the fuel economy like on a st and what litre is your as you can get a 1.6 ecoboost and some other not really sure though as I haven't really looked at any st fiestas

The Mk 7 is a 1.6 with standard 180 that overboosts to 200. I got 37mpg from my 13 and am getting 40 odd from the newer 15. There is a Ford recall on for 2013-14 s which takes 2-3 days. Only issue I had with the 13 was a sticky handbrake caliper. The 15 has a good handbrake and this might account for the worse mpg on the 13.

I bought another ST because it's a perfect runaround. Tried a 208 GTI and it's simply not as good.

Fuel economy does worry me too much because if I get the right one I'll love to drive the car and won't care about the fuel consumption, one of my friends has a 1.25 fiesta Mk7 edge with 69bhp and that feels very nippy and I have fun in my car in the lower gears so I can only imagine what a st feels like, as they are farely low have you had and suspension problems. My mini is low aswell n it could just be my mini but I've had no end of problems with steering like top mounts and springs. And right now my power steering is on its way out which is a common problem with first generation minis

No suspension issues. I did replace the rear spring upper cushions with Powerflex items as the originals were crappy foam. The 15 has better ones buy I don't know if those are original improved versions.
