Hi, sorry I am new to the site so I hope I am posting this in the right place...can you let me know if this is a suitable place to ask advice on a faulty airbag warning light? Thanks. Gav

You would probably get more responses if you just posted your question in general gassing, but you are right, this is the ford specific forum so your post 'might' get moved back here.

Hi thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it! OK, I will try here first as I understand I can't use too many forums at once.

So, my problem is this...the airbag warning light on my MK1 Ford Focus keeps lighting up for some reason. It does say in the vehicle's service history that this has been a problem for some time and that repairs have been attempted, but seemingly to no avail. I took it to the garage (it's a family friend we have used for years and trust). He noticed that previous mechanic tried to sort wires under driver seat, but just cable tied stuff together, so now it's hard wired together - this didn't fix the problem. We then tried a couple of clock springs off ebay as he noticed it came on when going round corners, but again to no avail. It now comes on sporadically and I can't say any one thing causes it. When it comes on it flashes twice, then twice again then comes on. When the mechanic read it through the diagnostic machine it said driver's side airbag, it said something about "earth" but also said something about restraining. Mechanic said it could be something about the seatbelt firing mechanism but we are a bit stumped. Any advice anyone can give will be more than welcome! Thanks! Gav

Hard to diagnose. My 2005 Mustang had an issue with the pre-tensioner on a seat belt and replacing it cured it but you need a diagnostic OBD reader. Cheap enough on eBay.

Hi thanks for the answer! I really appreciate it. When you mentioned that I googled it and it reminded me of what the code machine said, "short to ground" about the seatbelt. Yeah the mechanic said it could be a long list of a multitude of problems. Just trying to get a list of possibilities together to then rule them out by process of elimination.

Flash code 2 2 can be any of the 4 above codes, all point to the drivers airbag itself or the circuits.

Ford dealers will have air bag simulators which are basically resistors in a socket form that can be fitted instead of the airbag modules when testing the circuit..

You could of course have a wiring fault from the airbag ECU to the steering column.

If you have the 2 2 flash code it's nothing to do with the seat belt pretensioners/wiring of those, they always have a 4 code.
