Focus st 2015 onwards real mpg?
Discussion
Hi everyone
I was hoping a few people might be able to give a rough guide to the real mpg from either the 2015ish or the facelift focus st petrol.
I’m looking at a new daily in the coming months and have been playing around with some fuel calculators.
So what’s the likely mpg for motorway at say 78mph on cruise? This is what I will be doing for 600 miles a week so is the only real interest.
Thanks in advance, I realise it’s not an exact science!

The facelift Mk.3 ST came out in January 2015, I had an October 2015 model. On an open road run driving extremely economically you could get up to 40mpg, although its no fun driving like this all the time.
Sitting at 78mph would naturally have a negative effect on fuel consumption, although with our congested roads the time spent at that speed might not be particularly long. Like you say its not an exact science, and I have no idea how you drive when not on cruise......but lets say a ball park figure of 30mpg should not be far away.

My 14 plate ST gets 34 on super unleaded on a motorway run from Bath to Luton. So M4 at a good lick then start stop on the M25, A roads bursty to the final destination. I wasn’t trying hard to economise.
When I really tried on unleaded I got 40. So perhaps more on super as it just eeks out better mpg. I’ve not driven during the winter so this is best case scenario as the colder it gets the higher restiance = more drag. So it’ll dip down.

An indicated 78mph will see you get mid 30s. A genuine 78mph (indicated around 86 as the speedo reads 10% over from my observations) will see you get just under 30mpg if you're reasonably gentle on the pedal. To get 40mpg on a motorway you'd need to stay under 60mph and be under the feet of the trucks who won't appreciate you getting in their way.
600 miles a week in the petrol model is going to cost you a fair chunk. You'd be better with the coal powered model for that mileage

Yes the cost of petrol is going to be in the region of £150 per week, so will be much better off with a diesel ST like you say.And if sitting at a constant speed on cruise control for the majority of time, you wouldn't notice any difference from the driving experience apart from how much slower the fuel gauge goes down.

Dad's 2015 ST TDCi Focus is getting around 50mpgAnd if sitting at a constant speed on cruise control for the majority of time, you wouldn't notice any difference from the driving experience apart from how much slower the fuel gauge goes down.
In the last month doing the usual driving about town and A roads, but also drove from Fife to Harrogate to Devon to Surrey then back to Fife without any serious hooning but kind of sat between 80 and 90 on the motorway parts. Trip computer hasn't been reset and the average is sitting at 29 mpg. But I'm usually around the 28 mpg average.
I think you’ll easily get low 30’s. Mine is a 2016 model. I commute 90 miles each way from Perth to Aberdeen airport. My best mpg so far is 45, but I was on the space saver after a puncture. Steady 50 mph all the way home. To get anything over 35 mpg you’ll need to be very careful and slow.

Fit four space savers, you’ll end up doing 90mpg.True that.
