Fiesta 1.6 petrol loosing power

I have a 2010 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 petrol and over the last week it has been loosing power intermittently. It only happens once each every journey.

Any ideas what it could be ?

To add to this:

The engine management light is not on so that’s all good. No weird noises or anything either.

Even although the engine management light is not on, it's worth getting the car scanned to see if any fault codes are saved. Not all faults trigger the EML.

Good plan. I’m beginning to think it is the fuel filter. Tonight while it was losing power I changed down the gears and the power came back. It then ran well the whole journey home.

Fuel filter sounds a good call. Have a look and see what condition the spark plugs are in too, check the connections to the coil pack are sound.

Thanks for the advice guys I’ll get on it tomorrow. I’m going to limit my use of the car until I sort it out.

Any idea where the fuel filter is situated on a MK7 1.6 petrol 2010 ?

Small update

I added a bottle of redex fuel cleaner and it isn’t doing it as much. It’s only done it once since this so that tells me that is the problem. I’m going to buy some forte fuel cleaner and put it in with a full tank of petrol. I’ll of course rag the car about to make sure it goes into all the nocks and crannys.

I shall update on progress and hopefully this will help out anyone else with the issues.

I have now replaced the coil pack, ht leads and spark plugs however the problem is still here. Any other ideas about what it could be ?

I think it is a problem with the fuel and air mixture. The car isn’t as bad since I replaced the spark plugs. The head gasket is fine on the car so no issues there. I’m wondering if it’s a sensor but I suppose the only way I’ll know is if I put it on a diagnostic machine.

From what I can tell, the fuel filter is actually inside the tank. Not exactly helpful! Definitely worth investing in an interface dongle thing, that might show up things like a faulty throttle sensor, bad injector, etc.

Thanks guys the car is going on diagnostics next week to see if any fault codes are there. Hopefully that’ll show up and I can get it all sorted.
