Sync Update - Ford given up with user updates?
Discussion
Wanted to check the success rate of people doing Ford Sync updates to their cars themselves?
I updated my Focus ST Mk3 14 reg from 5.8 to 5.11 with some serious tinkering in the installer code (much Googling I have to admit). Very very poor for the official website to offer a specific update package (based on VIN) and it to have lots of errors in the code. Much editing needed for the car to recognise the packages.
My understanding was if you had Sync 1.1 (Bluetooth enabled but not touch screen) then the same update can be applied to any car. However, fiancees Fiesta Mk7 14 plate won't take the 5.11 update my ST did. It starts the install, then says failed... "The installation has run out of space or does not work with this version"
Alternative is £114 to have Ford say yes or no to an update; if the diagnostic finds an outdated module I assume.....
