hey guys does anyone know how long the cambelt survives on the ford focus 1.6 petrol 2005 model?

I think Ford suggest somewhere in the region of every 100k/8y. If it looks like it needs replacing before then, personally I would do it for peace of mind.

My car's recommended a new cam belt every 36k/3y so think yourself lucky!

I changed it at about 70k before passing mine on to my daughter. I think it is now up to about 140k and has had a second one. Lot cheaper than a new engine!

3 years/36k sounds like a scam!

Garage observed that they get more cambelt failures in Winter as the ageing rubber stiffens in the cold and can't cope with starting up on cold 'n frosty mornings.

That's what I thought at first! To start with they recommended changing the cam belt every 72k/6y, but some started to go earlier than that, so they halved it!

I've been told that they can last a fair bit longer than that, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! In fairness it's a pretty easy job as far as cam belt changes go!
