Hi all,

Hoping that someone might be able to help me out here. (I have looked on other forum posts, but all I seem to find is people saying this is possible, without actually dropping any links to any kit, and whilst that it is useful to know it is possible, it's not news that any car can be upgraded to DAB smile )

I have owned my 2010 Mk4 Titanium X Sport (Estate) Mondeo for about 6 months and would like to get a DAB/DAB+ upgrade.

Originally the car was advertised as having this (it clearly doesn't) but after having a look around this morning, it seems that the Blaupunkt NX head unit with touchscreen SatNav doesn't come with the DAB option built in, oh well, no big deal, I can just retrofit, right?!! biggrin

So I did a little "shopping" and can only seem to find these poxy plug into the lighter cheapy options all over eBay (which I really don't want) or some insanely expensive options which I just cannot justify to have Moyles or TalkSport in my ears on my morning commute.

Can anyone point me in the direction of something that is decent and relatively inexpensive, please?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Download the TuneIn app (or use the Absolute/Talksport/Capital app) on to your phone and connect to the car via Bluetooth audio function.

What's that like on the old data usage though?

I bought a DAB+ unit for mine which had an antenna that stuck in the corner of the window. The reception was a bit rubbish, the supplier argued that as Ford's have the heated windscreen it gets in the way of the signal (whether it's on or not), don't know how true it was but something to consider.

I have looked at an antenna from Halfords, about 15 of your finest english pounds and have seen people posting about sticking them in the rear quarter window to avoid the heated screens, but not sure if this will just plug into the back of my NX unit? Do you know if it will?

Wondering if it's worth a phone call into FrORD?

You really need an external aerial for DAB.

I upgraded my mk3 Mondeo with an Alpine head unit (£150), single DIN adapter (£25) and powered aerial amplifier (£35). The amp uses the original external aerial and works a treat.

DAB doesn't use tons of data so using your phone is the cheapest option. Those PURE DAB adapters aren't very good unless you have an external aerial fitted.

I did look at replacing the head unit, but then i would lose the SatNav and all the other integrated items in the touchscreen NX unit.

Since 6th May I've used just under 3GB of data. I use it for streaming from radio apps, amazon music, etc. for around 6-7 hours per week.

Quite a few MK2 Focus RS owners have it - tried and tested.
