I run a TVR S2 with a 2.9 V6 Ford Engine. It seems a common problem with these, they eat TPs for breakfast. Do any of you knowledgeable people have any answers as to why and is it a problem when its under a Ford bonnet. Some people say its water ingress, some say its the heat. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. At £50 a pop every few months for some owners, its no fun

They did fail, but never as a regular failure point.

If it's suspected water ingress, try a thin layer of silcone sealant over it, and try and make sure that the cables can't chanel water into it....I'm unsure of its fitment in a TiV.

Whats the max voltage going through it?

heat can be dealt with too with a makeshift foil sheild...if this one lasts OK with one, think about a permanant fix from then on.

Trying a fix for both scenarios is the only way to try and get to the root of it.

Cheers Nighthawk, I would think it is more of a heat problem rather than water. Although its situated right behind the bonnet vent, it is a sealed item itself. Will try wrappin it in foil to reduce heat.

TVR are still using Ford throttle pots for the Speed Six engines, they seem to last about 14K miles before they wear and need changing again, no big deal as the pair only cost around £70, still a bit annoying though!
