My radio /CD stopped working on Monday. Booked in to local Ford dealer today who carried a software update.

Price..........£216 eek Thankfully the lease company would pick up the tab.

The car is still under manufacturers warranty.
A simple software update would not cost £216.
There is obviously more to this story than you are telling us.

It's got 61200 miles on it and therefore out of warranty.

Well there's one thing you hadn't told us. biggrin
The car is 2 years old(maybe less) and only 1200 miles over, so assuming it has been properly serviced from new It would be poor customer relations for Ford not to make a goodwill gesture. frown

It's been serviced as per the schedule (every 12 500 miles). What I find strange (apart from the cost), is the fact the radio/CD would stop when all it needed was a "software update". PCs, tablets, phones etc don't stop when an update is required.

A good point.
Who knows what they have actually done....but £216 for a "software update" is daylight robbery/extortion. eek
I still say Ford should have covered the cost under the circumstances. It really is extremely poor!!
If it was your own car then I would be contacting Ford Customer Relations Centre.

I'm waiting for a Sync 3 update fir my ST as its utter st.

I'll be pissed if they expect me to pay for updates to be able to use the system even out of warranty.

"Yeah this cars great but you'll need to keep paying us to update it" doesn't sound like a good sales pitch.
