I need you help please.

A close friend has a Ford Kuga on a 09 plate. Its a 2.0 diesel engine and has been fairly reliable. On Monday the car wouldn't start. She explains it as the engine was turning, but wouldn't catch. There were warning lights on the dash, but she is not sure what they were.

She called out the RAC who took her to her local garage. They diagnosed an electrical issue, something that they cannot fix. They took the car to Ford who have said that the car has a PCM/ECM problem and want to replace for £1890!!

Can anyone help here?

Thanks.

There's a UK based Kuga forum at kugaownersclub.co.uk/forum/ who may be more knowledgeable. I'd certainly be suggesting they take the car to an independent specialist rather than a Ford franchise, as it sounds like they just want to swap out bits of hardware rather than doing any in depth investigation.

How can you possibly tell from the OP that the dealer hasn't already done any in depth investigation?! It's quite possible there's a PCM issue if it's injector driver related for example. There are companies like ecutesting.com that have the capability to test and repair a Ford/Delphi PCM though for less than a couple of hundred quid.

Yes you're right, i've made an assumption that Ford haven't done any in depth investigation, as I presumed the OP would have mentioned it.

Even so, for that money I think it's worth getting a 2nd opinion from and independent specialist.

Iancress - Your initial assumption was right.

Allen Ford have not performed any diagnoses as far as I can work out. They cant read any faults out of the PCM as it just doesnt respond and hence have diagnosed the PCM at fault.

I looked for a indie good with Fords in Swindon and Wiltshire - no real joy - any ideas?
