I was thinking of doing something drastic to my little For Orion... i.e. dropping a much bigger lump into it, but without having to redo the tranny and everything else... Is this possible?

Would love comments from people who have experience in this area... particularly from someone who has done a engine swap...

Cheers

Yes... yes I do want to go mad

But will that involve a complete tranny change etc etc... and saying that, if it does... will that be reasonable on cost...

The RST b5 gearbox used a limited slip diff to try and help with power delivery, so if your seriously thinking of creating a sleeper, i'd say yes get the box too.

Wouldn't it be easier to get an RS Turbo and de-Chav it?

Easier - but wouldn't have the 'dark horse' effect

hey go well don't they Dennis

Did you go along the bored out 1800cvh (sierra) or the US long block lump?

I transplanted a US lump in a m8's series 2 turbo, mental it was.....and they all complained about the focus RS's torque steer

US 1.9 engine lightened and balanced gasflowed head etc etc i think it was pushing 240bhp before i killed it 6k on a project badly spent and the fact i never got to use it for what it was built for really narks me , rollcage done its job though

What would the 1800 sierra lump push out - and how difficult is the drop? Also is there lots of wiring to be done, or any engine mount changes...

power engineering on wallingford road, uxbridge used to build some fierce engines for rs's,i dont know if they still do them though.i know they used the 1.9 u.s block as a starting point.

i tried a convertable mk4 which had a p.e conversion and it was absolutely brutal.

iirc you wont be able to put the sierra lump in,the mounts are in diffrent places. (i may be corrected though)
