Thinking about replaced the Mrs' mk1 Focus with a Mk3, probably the 1.6 diesel (she does about 20k miles, mostly motorways, per year).

However, having never owned a diesel before, should I be concerned with DPF issues? I know what we intend to use it for should be ok (i.e. not short journeys), but don't know if I need to keep an eye out for existing problems when buying one.

Also, does one have to fill with with special additive in regards to the DPF/emissions or something? I can't find any info on this...?

Thanks beer

We had an early 1.6 tdci at work (61 plate).

It was caned daily and never gave any issues. As far as I know there's no fluid for the DPF.

Make sure you get the 115bhp one, the 93 is hateful.

Oh and if it were me, i'd change the oil every 6000 miles.

The DV6 really doesn't like dirty oil, i have a regular customer with one on 117K but it's had oil changes at 6K since new, recently had a new timing chain and tensioner as the chain was wearing through the cam cover (tensioner had colapsed), this will happen a lot earlyer without regular oil changes, i like them but they are a little weak in certain areas, listen carefully around the injectors for a "chuffing" sound, this meens the injector seals are leaking, which IME they do rather a lot, sort it early and it's a cheap easy fix, let if carry on and the work and money will soon pile up to fix it wink
